Creativity

Creativity is one of the hardest qualities to explain because it means something different to everyone. But at the end of the day, it all comes down to the ability to think for yourself. Creativity pops up all over the place but sometimes it gets stifled by the norms society has put in place. Being creative doesn't necessarily mean that you are great at art or that your some fantastic writer, it means that you're brave enough to think for yourself. I learned a lot about being creative from the biome themed art project that I did in 8th grade. For this project we had to pick a biome and use it as inpiration for a piece of artwork. At first the task sounded daunting but once I started looking at pictures of different biomes I realized that the project wasn't really so hard. All you had to do was see the beauty in the earth and transfer that onto my paper. I picked the swamp because I think it's one of the most beautiful biomes. Once i decided on what the key parts of my art piece would be i just had to work on finding my direction. I really struggled to be creative because at first I wanted everything to be perfect but I eventually realized that being a perfectionist was holding me back, so instead of trying to make everything precise and organized I just let the images swirling around in my mind flood onto the paper. This project taught me to be creative because it forced me to let go and be original.
