This year I feel that the quality I’ve grown in the most is inquiry. The way that I think and ask questions about things has changed greatly. Ever since I started school I’ve been scared to share my opinions and ask questions. Thankfully each year I have been brought out of my shell a little bit more especially since I started high school, but I think that this year has helped me grow more than any other. There are a couple factors that have directly lead to this semi sudden comfort with being open about my curiosity. One of the main projects that helped me was the history project we did on understanding genocide. This project was tough because we had to go very in depth and do a lot of research. My issue was that I had almost no background information on the Israeli Palestinian (the conflict we were doing the project on) conflict to begin with and I didn’t know where to start. We had to write a persuasive letter to our representative. The problem was that I didn’t understand enough about the conflict to actually have an opinion. If I hadn’t been open to asking questions I never would’ve gotten anywhere in this project. Inquiry is an extremely important quality to have. If you aren’t comfortable with asking questions about things you don’t know you’ll never get anywhere. Even though I’ve got a lot of work to do to improve my use of inquiry, I’m still very happy with how far I’ve come.
